WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
Transformation of the Forum Headquarters
THE SETTING The World Economic Forum headquarters overlooking Lake Geneva, is a Minimalist building dating back to the early 2000’s. Its 3-storied glass atria house the main circulation while a series of vast open spaces hold desking and meeting rooms. A cafeteria provides seating for on-site lunch.
THE SCOPE Redesign the entire headquarters with mixed-type, unassigned seating for up to 700 employees, a 160-pax restaurant, a bistro serving quick, healthy food, various sizes of acoustically impeccable meeting rooms and lounges, flexibility in function, modernized esthetics.
THE SPECIAL REQUEST To create a dynamic workplace that reflects a living legacy, to enthuse stakeholders and ensure long-term success from an architectural, functional, community and cultural point of view. A new vision of workspace collaboration and social interaction, satisfying wellbeing and sustainability needs in a dynamic way and reinforcing the story of the Forum –past, present and future.
THE CONCEPT Eliminate the isolation of individual open spaces by dissolving corridors and creating fluid transitional spaces. Innovate each open space with bespoke hotdesks, transitional desks, pods and booths and other non-traditional work units. Redesign lighting for a soft, non-corporate atmosphere and integrate biophilic design. Use vertical circulation as informal meeting, socializing and guest-welcoming lounges. Create a restaurant and bistro that feel urban chic while serving also as support spaces for group meetings and individual work. Add wow-features that enhance the corporate story.

We had the opportunity to work with many exciting sustainable materials. 3D Cork panels for acoustics, recycled plastic waste for countertops, recycled fishing net nylon for carpetting, recycled bottleglass for the restaurant tables, recycled velvet and wool for the lounge, restaurant and restaurant seating to name a few, recycled marble for decorative walls, eco-mdf for furniture production, just to name a few.
